The tropical rainforest substrate naturally regulates the humidity level in the terrarium by absorbing it and then releasing it slowly. The addition of natural sphagnum to the substrate maximizes its hygroscopic power. In addition, adequate atmospheric humidity promotes the moulting of reptiles and helps prevent respiratory infections.
Furthermore, the unique size and shape of the bark pieces in combination with the natural sphagnum allow frequent irrigation of the plants, in addition to providing good aeration promoting healthy root growth. The substrate is also heat treated to reduce bacterial contamination.
