Riverbed Sand is ideal for most sea turtles as it is their preferred substrate in the wild. Soft-shelled turtles particularly like this fine sand to dig and burrow in. Other types of aquatic reptiles or even amphibians, such as frogs and salamanders, will appreciate riverbed sand because of its softness.
A rough surface, such as gravel, can easily irritate and injure reptile skin tissue. Riverbed sand is very fine and can be easily digested when ingested, unlike gravel and pebbles, which can cause indigestion.
Created in African rivers over time, riverbed sand is extremely fine and round, making it an ideal and safe substrate for aquaterrariums.
