Extrusion is a process where friction and pressure are combined in a cooker-extruder to create extreme heat. Heat is then used to quickly cook and preserve protein and carbohydrate-containing ingredients. This process improves the supply of these nutrients to reptiles and improves digestibility and taste.

A number of nutrients are subject to deterioration when exposed to light. The 'fresh bags' prevent light from entering, maintaining the nutritional value of food at its optimum level.
