The bulb simulates moonlight to allow nighttime observation of the animal without disturbing its day and night cycle. The light emitted is bluish since the glass used is blue. The heat created by the bulb is minimal, but sufficient to replicate tropical night temperatures.
The low wattage of these bulbs does not interfere with natural temperature drops at night.
