The cholla is a cactus from the Sonoran Desert, which extends from the southwestern United States to northern Mexico. Cholla is a treelike plant with low branches growing from a single trunk that grows to a height of 4 m (12 in).
These cacti grow in groups of dense bushes, providing many species of reptiles with the ideal hiding place. Many species live around these bushes and seek refuge there when they feel threatened by predators, or simply when they need shelter from the scorching desert sun.
Fossilized cholla is an ideal hiding place, especially for many reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates!
