The Fluval UVC Clarifier for Filter is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date of purchase. This warranty is valid with proof of purchase only. The warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of appliances only and does not apply to direct or indirect loss or damage to animate or inanimate objects, regardless of the cause. This warranty is valid only under normal operating conditions for which the item was designed. The warranty excludes any damage caused by misuse, negligence, improper installation, modification, abuse or commercial use. It does not cover normal wear and tear, broken glass, or parts that have not been properly maintained. THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS.
THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The water in my aquarium is cloudy and smells bad. Will UVC clarifier help?
If cloudy water is caused by suspended bacteria or algae, the UVC clarifier will effectively clear the water. To help reduce odors, the best solution is to use activated carbon. It is also advisable to find the cause of the bad smell. If this is caused by rotting organic matter, be sure to remove it and perform partial water changes regularly.
Does the UVC clarifier prevent algae from growing on surfaces in the aquarium?
The UVC clarifier only neutralizes airborne bacteria and algae; therefore, it will not prevent algae growth on glass walls, gravel, ornaments, etc. On the other hand, some species of algae proliferating on surfaces are spores at a certain stage of their life; the UVC clarifier will therefore help prevent the growth of these algae species.
Will using the UVC Clarifier harm the beneficial bacteria in my aquarium?
Beneficial species of heterotrophic and nitrifying bacteria in an aquarium live on surfaces, such as in the filter, substrate, on plants, etc. They don't live in the water column; therefore, they are not affected by UVC sterilization.
Will the UVC clarifier have negative effects on beneficial microorganisms in my reef aquarium?
The UVC clarifier may affect certain beneficial microorganisms in the water column, including those that may be a food source for certain fish and coral species. However, these microorganisms are very abundant in healthy reef aquaria, and therefore the UVC clarifier should not significantly disturb their population.
Will the UVC Clarifier help prevent my fish from getting sick?
UVC Clarifier helps keep aquariums clean and healthy, but it is not a cure for sick fish. Always consult your local aquarium retailer for advice in the prevention and treatment of fish disease.
My fish have the parasite called ich ( Ichthyophthirius multifiliis ); will UVC clarifier cure them?
In general, the parasites are too large to be effectively eliminated by UVC light. To treat an ich parasite infection, we recommend consulting your local aquarium retailer for advice.
I am currently administering medication to my fish. Should I continue to run the UVC clarifier during treatment?
To ensure optimum results, the UVC clarifier should be turned off during the treatment of fish with medication.
How do I know the UVC Clarifier is working?
The 24-hour timer has an indicator light indicating that the device is in operation. If the light is green, the UVC bulb is working normally. If the light is red, the bulb has expired and the UVC clarifier needs to be changed.
How long should I run the UVC clarifier?
We recommend running the UVC clarifier intermittently for 4 hours per day. If desired effects are not achieved, gradually increase the amount of time the device operates each day until desired results are achieved.
How will the UVC Clarifier operate following a power outage?
The UVC clarifier will return to the same settings previously selected when reconnected to a power source. For example, if the timer was set to run 4 hours a day, the unit will continue to run 4 hours a day from the time power is restored. Since the timer does not take into account the actual time, if you want to operate it from 8 am, for example, the device must be connected to a power source at 8 am.
Which pipe size is suitable for the UVC clarifier?
The UVC Clarifier connects directly to any external filter with a hose having an internal diameter of ⅝" (16 mm), such as the Fluval 07 series filters.
Does the UVC clarifier absolutely have to be installed using the supplied fixing screws or can it simply hang with the pipes?
We recommend fixing the UVC clarifier with the two supplied fixing screws. However, if you choose not to attach it, the device will still function normally.
Should the UVC clarifier be installed in a specific orientation?
The UVC clarifier should be installed vertically, with the mounting screws at the top and the pipe fittings at the bottom. This helps distribute the weight. However, if the unit is installed any other way, it should operate normally, provided the installation is secure.
My filter stopped working for a few hours, but my UVC clarifier was still plugged in and running. Is it safe to continue using the UVC Clarifier or do I need to replace it?
It is safe to continue using UVC Clarifier.
Can I replace the bulb inside the UVC clarifier once it burns out?
No. When the bulb fails, the entire device must be changed. It should be noted that the bulb has a duration of 30,000 hours.
I accidentally dropped my UVC clarifier. How do I know if the bulb is broken? Should the device be replaced as a precaution?
It is impossible to open the UVC clarifier to check if the bulb is damaged. Therefore, we recommend replacing the device as a precaution.
Why is a bulb with LFCF technology better than a traditional fluorescent bulb?
A cold cathode fluorescent lamp (LFCF) runs cooler than a traditional fluorescent bulb, and therefore will last up to 3 times longer.
