Farmina nourriture chien et chat - Nourriture naturelle - Boutique Le Jardin Des Animaux

Farmina, dog and cat food made in Italy

Farmina is Nature and Science. Our mission is to develop the best natural and scientifically validated nutritional system . We use only the best quality raw materials, which we mix and cook in a healthy way following the guidelines brought to us by experts in the nutrition of dogs and cats aware of the nutritional needs of these carnivores.

The extreme care and attention we take in designing and developing our food is typical of the family, and it is from the family that our nutrition philosophy comes.

Dogs and cats are the four-legged members of our family and experience emotions they can only find at home.
Nutrition is the basis of their well-being, essential to their daily happiness, which is why our motto is: Happy Pet. Happy you.

WE ARE INSPIRED BY NATURE
Nature is the greatest source of wealth and that is why we preserve the characteristics of our food by using the tools and methods that mother nature gave us:

NATURAL ANTIOXIDANTS ONLY
Extracts rich in tocopherols allowing a natural preservation of the products.

STORAGE UNDER A PROTECTIVE ATMOSPHERE
When we pack our products, we introduce nitrogen into the bags, which replaces oxygen, guaranteeing the natural preservation of the products. This technique is also widely used in human food, since nitrogen is a volatile gas present in nature, which we breathe daily.

MADE WITHOUT GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS
The European Union authorizes the use of GMOs but regulates this use by the "precautionary principle". Farmina goes further by excluding potentially modified ingredients from its recipes, using ancestral cereals without GMOs (spelt and oats).

WHY CHOOSE NON-GMO INGREDIENTS?

A genetically modified organism (GMO) is a living organism whose genetics have been modified by genetic engineering techniques that allow the addition, deletion or modification of genetic elements. The EU's approach to the subject of GMOs is based on the precautionary principle, according to which any product containing transgenic crops could have potentially dangerous effects. Since at present it is not possible to determine these risks with sufficient certainty, all these products are subject to specific regulations and restrictions to protect human, animal and plant health, in addition to the 'environment.

Although the European Union authorizes the use of GMOs, although it regulates them in a restrictive way, Farmina goes beyond this precautionary principle by excluding from each formulation all potentially genetically modified ingredients. To do this, we use only certified 100% GMO Free raw materials in our Natural & Delicious and Vet Life Natural Diets nutritional systems; we do not use corn and we favor the use of ancestral cereals typical of traditional Italian foods such as spelt, oats and tubers such as potatoes.

We have chosen to avoid GMOs primarily because we intend to protect the health of our animals: it is assumed that genetically modified foods could potentially introduce new toxins or allergens into previously safe and wholesome foods, they could transmit resistance to antibiotics, reduce the nutritional value of the food, especially in the long term. Some studies have revealed how animals fed genetically modified cultures may exhibit structural configuration of the ileum, cell proliferation in the stomach walls and intestines, abnormal gene expressions, structural and functional changes in hepatocytes, impaired zymogen synthesis and increased kidney and heart lactate dehydrogenase levels. In the same subjects, increased triglycerides, enlarged liver, altered renal parameters, and general hepatorenal toxicity, sometimes associated with cardiac, adrenal, or spleen involvement, were also reported.

The spread of GMOs can lead to alterations only in the animals fed with them but also in the environment (reduction of biodiversity, transmission to infecting plants of resistance to pesticides, promotion of the evolution of increasingly resistant parasites ) at the risk of a change in the delicate balance that is the basis of our ecosystem.

For all these reasons, one of the foundations of our actions is respect for Nature as the ecosystem in which we live and as the physiological nature of our four-legged family to whom we want to offer only the best to ensure their well-being and their happiness.

SCIENCE IS OUR METHOD
Science guides our actions, in our research we cooperate with the Chair of Animal Nutrition of Federico II University of Naples. The clinical observations from which we develop our formulas are carried out by public bodies, guaranteeing their scientific value and certifying their real effectiveness. These collaborations have led over the years to different ranges validated by national and international scientific publications in renowned journals .

The cooperation between Farmina and the University has given rise to the "Farmina Vet Research" team, the aim of which is to research and develop new formulas based on the latest scientific discoveries.
These discoveries have, for example, highlighted the importance of a low glycemic index in nutrition to reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes.

WHAT IS THE GLYCEMIC INDEX?

The effects of a carbohydrate source on blood sugar are provided by the glycemic index. Foods with a low glycemic index are better assimilated because their absorption time is modulated, which reduces physical stress and increases efficiency.

A high glycemic index, linked to cereals rich in highly digestible starch, predisposes to pathologies such as obesity and diabetes, both in humans and in animals.

That's why, after detailed research, we created N&D "Grain Free" , completely grain-free, and N&D "Low Ancestral Grain" , with few ancestral grains (spelt and oats) which have a lower glycemic index than other commonly used grains. Their low glycemic index allows for a moderate postprandial glycemic response that is also modulated over time. This type of cereal has a higher content of dietary fiber which helps digestion and the absorption of nutrients stimulating the body's defenses.

Additionally, the use of complex grains such as corn could increase the risk of GMO contamination, which goes against Natural & Delicious' nutritional philosophy.

Natural nutrition for a dog or cat should be almost carbohydrate-free since their metabolism has evolved to gain energy from animal proteins and fats. Carbohydrates provide our pets with unwanted calories, however most industrial foods on the market contain 40% to 60% of them.
Cereal carbohydrates traditionally used in dog and cat food formulas provide a high amount of energy due to glucose which induces a rapid postprandial spike in blood sugar. Especially in these cases, the postprandial insulin response to glucose and its ability to modulate different types of carbohydrates is crucial.

FARMINA: NATURE AND SCIENCE IN PERFECT HARMONY
The perfect union between nature and science has resulted in the creation of the first and revolutionary Veterinary Clinical Nutrition range, Farmina Vet Life Natural Diet , and the development of a scientifically studied nutritional system for carnivores: N&D Grain Free ( grain-free) and Low Ancestral Grain (with exclusively ancestral grains - spelled and oats).
