Your dog in a car in the sun, what temperature? - Boutique Le Jardin Des Animaux

Your dog in a car in the sun, what temperature?

Unfortunately, it has to be repeated over and over again.

YOU MUST NEVER leave young children or animals in a vehicle parked in the sun and even in the shade on very hot days without wind!

The consequences of too high a temperature in the passenger compartment of your car can be disastrous for your dog or your children.

Why do we still need to draw attention to this subject? In the most extreme cases the body can no longer evacuate the accumulated heat and its temperature increases exponentially to the point of generating very significant health problems, even cardiac arrest and even death.

You should also know that the body temperature of children increases three to five times faster than that of adults. For dogs it's just as fast if not faster for them.

But you are smart! You left a window slightly ajar, which you think will lower the cabin temperature to an acceptable and even comfortable level. Think again here are some explanations that will convince you that this technique is not a solution but a danger for all living beings.

CAA-Quebec conducted an experiment to find out the temperature in a passenger compartment in hot weather, i.e. 22°C in the sun. At this temperature, the interior of the car reached 50°C between the two front seats at the height of the central armrest. Imagine then that the outside temperature increases, that of the interior of the car also follows the same progression.

But 22°C in the sun is not heatwave temperatures. It is not uncommon to see outside temperatures rise to 40.5°C in a paved parking lot. Temperatures inside your vehicle can easily and quickly reach 100°C at the height of the front seat headrests. . It is therefore ridiculous to believe that leaving the windows slightly open is enough to dissipate the heat. In fact the heat will take 1 minute 20 seconds more before reaching 100°C under the same conditions as the last example.

Rapid temperature rise inside a vehicle

The temperature rises very quickly inside a motor vehicle under the sun. Even if the outside temperature remains stable for several hours, the temperature inside the passenger compartment continues to rise and as a result the oxygen there is increasingly rare.

Imagine a small Yaris or Honda Fit type car, where the air conditioner was on before the engine stopped and parked in the sun at 35°C. The temperature in the passenger compartment reaches 50°C in 20 minutes and 65.5°C in 40 minutes. You notice that the temperature continues to increase with the passing minutes.

For larger cars like Dodge Caravans, Toyota Siennas or large SUVs, the interior temperature goes from 22°C after the air conditioner is turned off to 46°C in 30 minutes when it is 24°C outside .

It is therefore essential not to leave your children or your dogs in the car without air conditioning in hot weather.
