Back to routine with your dog
Back to routine with your dog Returning to school and to a "normal" routine is often a source of stress for the family dog after the summer holidays or after a long period of confinement at home.
Regular attendance at home during the summer or during confinement is a reassuring stimulus for the dog.
Let's take the example of the return to the routine of September.
When September rolls around, separation anxiety could kick in as kids are in class, extracurricular activities resume, and weekday routines often mean less frequent home attendance. Ideally, by mid-August, begin to return to a routine in order to train your dog to his new reality.
For a dog, losing skills is often a source of anxiety and stress. Therefore, a progressive training schedule of the school routine is highly recommended. Monday morning, the first day of school, is not the time to start. Do as with your children, normally ten days before the start of the school year you prepare them for this change, why not do this with your dog?
Make a family council on the education of your dog
During these 10 days, review the good habits to instill in your companion.
- Is he allowed to lie on the couches?
- Who will feed the dog on weekday mornings?
- Does he still need his cage or only a limited space?
- The evening walk, who will do it on Monday, Tuesday and all the other days of the week?
- How should we walk our dog, how fast, which side of the master…. Here is a series of questions to which you will have to agree in order to have a well educated dog, but above all, balanced.
